Under 18 Mens & Open Womens (Div 2) ICC Wrap-up
Published Tue 22 Feb 2022
We were straight back into the action this weekend, with the Open Women (Division 2) and Under 18 Men’s teams taking to the Indoor Courts at MSC Parkville and Monash Uni.
It rained goals with 223 scored across both divisions. In the Under 18 Boys, Liam Henderson (Camberwell) led the way with a staggering 25 goals for the Event. While in the Women’s, Bailey Wallace (Camberwell) and Samantha Love (MCC Hockey Section) topped the charts with 15 goals each.
In the Women’s Competition, MCC Hockey Section went through the Round Robin stage undefeated and they met TEM in the Gold Medal Match, whose only defeat came at the hands of MCC. It was a tight tussle, but MCC were able to make the most of their opportunities and took a 2-0 lead into half time. TEM fought on valiantly, and really put pressure on MCC late in the match, but in the end MCC Hockey Section prevailed with a 3-1 win and took home the Gold Medals.
In the Under 18 Men’s Competition, Camberwell went 5 wins from 5 matches through the pool phase and secured a spot in the Gold Medal Match. They took on Altona, who were 4 wins and 1 loss (courtesy of Camberwell) at the end of the pool phase. The first half was high scoring, with Altona taking a 3-2 lead into the break. Camberwell showed their fire power in the second half though and slotted 4 goals to take a 6-4 victory in what was a very entertaining final and a much closer affair than their first meeting of the Event.
A huge thank you to all of the club administrators, team managers, coaches, players and supporters that were involved in the Event in some capacity.
