Under 13 Indoor Club Championships Wrap-up
Nearly a month later than originally scheduled, it was finally the Under 13 Boys & Girls’ time to hit the court for the Indoor Club Championships!
We saw 8 boy’s teams and 6 girl’s teams competing in 39 action packed matches, with a grand total of 246 goals scored across the two days.
In the girl’s competition, it was Footscray and Waverley that met in the Gold Medal Match after finishing atop the table after the Pool Matches. When they met earlier in the Event, it was Footscray that took the victory 2-1 in a tight affair. Waverley came out firing in their second meeting and played a superb match to win 5-1 and take home the Gold Medal. Congratulations to not only Waverley and Footscray on winning the Gold and Silver Medals, but to all six girls’ teams on a great weekend of Indoor Hockey.
In the boy’s competition, Doncaster and Waverley finished on top of Pool A and B respectively and claimed close Semi-Final victories. They were both undefeated heading into the Gold Medal Match and it was a tense match with Waverley leading 1-0 in the final stages. Doncaster had a late chance to push the match into a shoot-out, but the Waverley Goalkeeper made a fantastic save to seal the victory. Congratulations to Waverley and Doncaster on taking home medals and well done to the other six boys’ teams for their efforts across the weekend.
A special mention must go to Anna van Vroonhoven from Southern United who toped the goal scoring tally in the girls with 11 goals and to Elliot Baker and Jack Wilson who tied the boys’ goal scoring tally with 10 goals each.
The tournament would not have been possible without our dedicated officials. A massive thank you to all the of the umpires and Technical Officials that gave up their time over the weekend and to Kerrie Brown, Karen Lawrence and Stuart McCleary and the Umpire Managers Andrew Gillespie, Nathan McDonald and Isabel Wright.
Congratulations to the following four umpires for their appointments to the Gold Medal Matches:
- Under 13 Girls – Iris Milham & Nicola Brooks
- Under 13 Boys – Josh May & Ewan Bezzobs
That now marks the conclusion of the Term 1 Indoor Club Championships. Again, a massive thank you must go to the 60 people that officiated across course of the Indoor Club Championships. Also, to the clubs and their respective administrators that got the 69 teams out on the court, made up of 577 players across the 4 age groups. It was fantastic to see Indoor Hockey back in action after a nearly 12 months hiatus. We now cannot wait for the new purpose built Indoor Hockey Court to be completed at the State Netball Hockey Centre!
