Under 16 Boys & Girls Indoor Club Champs Wrap-up

Published Tue 01 Mar 2022

It was the Under 16 Boy’s & Girl’s turn to hit the Indoor Courts and MSC Parkville and Monash University last weekend for the Indoor Club Championships.

We had 18 teams competing in the Event, which was wonderful and similar to the previous two Events there were a staggering number of goals scored. In the Boy’s, we saw a total of 263 goals in the 32 matches and Harry Bradbury (Altona) led the way with 23 goals. While in the Girl’s, we had a total of 22 matches and 127 goals. Lucy Dunlop (Camberwell) took out the top goal scorer honours with a total of 11 goals.

In the under 16 Girl’s Competition, Powerhouse & St Kilda went through the pool stage undefeated with 6 wins from their 6 matches and had Camberwell hot on their heels with 5 wins from their 6 matches. It set up an enthralling Grand Final between the two teams after their first encounter was a 6-4 win to Powerhouse & St. Kilda. The Grand Final was a much tighter tussle with the two teams locked at 1-1 at half time. Second half goals to Trinity Woodward and then Maggie Mahony sealed a 3-1 win and the Gold Medal for Powerhouse & St Kilda.

In the Under 16 Boy’s Competition, Altona and Hawthorn topped the Pool A and headed for the Semi-Finals to meet the top two teams from Pool B, which were Essendon and Camberwell. In Semi-Final 1, Altona continued their winning ways and ran away 7-2 winners in a high scoring semi-final against Camberwell. Semi-Final 2 started at a rapid pace with 3 goals in the first 5 minutes, but became a real arm wrestle after that. Essendon Hockey were able to score early in the second half to level the scores at 2-2 with Hawthorn and the teams could not be split from there. As the higher ranked team, Essendon Hockey progressed through to the Gold Medal Match to take on Altona.

the Boy’s Gold Medal Match, it was again a rapid start with 5 goals in the first 10 minutes. But it was Altona who proved to have a little too much fire power running away winners 6-4 and taking home the Gold Medal.

A huge thank you to all of the club administrators, team managers, coaches, players and supporters that were involved in the Event in some capacity.
