Regional Hockey a big hit thanks to Macquarie Sports

Published Tue 29 Aug 2023

Putting sticks in hands is what it’s all about, and thanks to Macquarie Sports, Hockey Victoria were able to supply over 410 primary school aged children with a hockey stick, ball and bucket hat.

Over July and August 2023, schools in the Shepparton and Warrnambool areas were offered the opportunity to host a free hockey clinic at their school, or be part of a two-hour clinic at the hockey ground in Shepparton or Warrnambool. As a result, more than 660 children in Shepparton and more than 850 children in Warrnambool were introduced to hockey for the first time, by way of a free clinic.

Former Kookaburra Josh Simmonds and former Hockeyroo Kate Hanna were on hand to coach the clinics in the two locations, along with other local and Hockey Victoria coaches, which meant participants were given the opportunity to meet heroes of the game.

A big thank you to all the schools that participated, Goulburn Valley Hockey Association and Hockey South West, and to Macquarie Sports for making it all possible.
