Melbourne Sport Centre - Parkville Grand Opening

Published Wed 14 Jul 2021

History was made this morning with Minister Pakula joining HCM Women’s Star Krissy Bates in cutting the ribbon and unveiling the state of the art facilities which will be home to our elite talent, indoor hockey community and the wider Victorian Hockey Community. Boasting a purpose built Indoor Hockey Centre, High Performance gymnasium, recovery centre, auditorium, new office facilities and meeting rooms the facility is world class.

Joining Minister Pakula for the official opening was HV President Shaun Dooley, CEO Andrew Skillern, Australian Indoor Representatives Teegan Boucher & James Knee as well as HCM Women’s Stars Krissy Bates, Carly James and Aisling Utri. Stacia Strain (Australian Jillaroos & Head Women’s Hockey Program Manager) and HCM Head Coaches Lachlan Anderson and Phil Burrows were also in attendance.

As part of the official opening Skillern explained ‘the new hockey facilities are a game changer for our code in Victoria, Australia and Internationally’. Skillern went on to say that the Indoor Hockey Facility would provide the thousands of Victorian’s who play Indoor hockey a facility which will be the envy of the country.

In the coming months the facilities will start to be activated with a range of programs and activities including gymnasium and recovery facilities for our HCM Melbourne Squads. From an indoor hockey perspective there will be training sessions for our Victorian’s in the Australian Indoor squads and a range of junior development programs will commence as we lead into Term 4 where HV expect over 100 Indoor teams to be playing at the centre, seven days a week.
