HC Melbourne teams ready for Round 1 clash with Tasmania
Published Wed 04 Oct 2023
This Friday, JDH Hockey One, Australia’s premier Men’s and Women’s Hockey competition returns for a huge Season 3!
The season opener will kick off on Friday, October 6 where HC Melbourne take on the Tasmania Tigers down in Hobart for a double header from 6.30pm onwards.
The Women's team will feature a host of players who have recently returned from the U21's Jillaroos camp in Canberra. Emily Hamilton-Smith, Josie Lawton, Zali Ward and Bridget Laurance all come into the team from the Jillaroos while Charlotte Hodgson will play her debut against the Tassie Tigers. A notable omission is midfield star and 2022 Hockey One MVP, Amy Lawton who will not take the field at the direction of Hockey Australia High Performance staff.
The Men will look to improve on last season's performance and start on a positive note in round one. The team features Kookaburras players Nathan Ephraums, Craig Marais and Johan Durst. While Ben White, Brad Marais and Frazer Gerrard will look to make their debut for Hockey Club Melbourne.
Catch all the action live and free on 7plus with the Women starting at 6.30pm, followed by the Men at 8pm.
HC Melbourne home game opener follows on the week after on Friday, 13 October. Our Men and Women take on Adelaide Fire live from Melbourne Sports Centre - Parkville.
Akin to the return in Season 2, we will see seven rounds with every team playing each other once. Every team will have one bye each, with the top four teams after seven rounds progressing to the final's series. HC Melbourne have 3 home games this year:

- Round 5 - Friday, 3 November vs Brisbane Blaze (Women – 6.30pm, Men – 8.00pm)
