HC Melbourne final squads revealed
Published Tue 16 Jul 2024
HC Melbourne are excited to announce their squads for the upcoming 2024 season of Hockey One. After a thorough trial process, a talented lineup of athletes have been selected, including big names returning to the Black & Gold along with exciting international talent.
Men's Squad
Women's Squad
The Women’s Squad sees 15 players return from the 2023 season, while welcoming a handful of fresh faces including international signing, German National player, Charlotte Stapenhorst and a crop of young guns to provide depth to the team. Familiar faces Sophie Taylor, Hannah Cotter and Kary Chau will return to the Black & Gold.
Sophie Taylor has been playing in Belgium for the Royal Herakles Hockey Club in the ION Hockey League and will be a welcome inclusion to HCM’s backline. Dynamic forward Hannah Cotter returns from national duties after playing for the NZ Black Sticks to the HC Melbourne squad. Cotter finished the 2022 Hockey One Season as the league's second highest goal scorer and will compliment Charlotte Stapenhorst in the forward line.
Rene Hunter is also a welcome addition after playing for the Canberra Chill in the 2023 season. Hockeyroo Amy Lawton did not nominate to the squad, choosing to play Hockey in the European leagues following the Paris Olympics.
The Men’s Squad has also locked in a big international signing, in the form of Indian National player Shilanand Lakra. Lakra will complement the highest local talent, with a focus on our rising stars with the continued addition of our U21 Burra’s Nye Roberts, Cooper Burns and Liam Henderson in the HCM Men’s side. In addition, Great Britian National player, Peter Scott, will be joining the team after playing with Adelaide Fire in 2023.
The squads will begin their training block at the beginning of August all ramping up to the start of the Hockey One season in early October.
HC Melbourne’s season opener will kick off on Friday, 11 October where HC Melbourne take on the Adelaide Fire in Adelaide.
HC Melbourne will be back at home after our bye in Round 2 on Saturday, 26 October. Our Men and Women take on Perth Thundersticks live from State Netball Hockey Centre in Parkville.
HC Melbourne have 3 home games this year:
- Round 3 – Saturday, 26 October vs Perth Thundersticks
- Round 4 – Friday, 1 November vs NSW Pride
- Round 7 – Friday, 22 November vs Tasmania Tigers
