German forward Stapenhorst bolsters HC Melbourne's attack

Published Tue 25 Jun 2024

Hockey Club Melbourne has announced the signing of German power forward Charlotte Stapenhorst for the upcoming 2024 Hockey One season.

Stapenhorst, a seasoned veteran with over 160 appearances for the German national team, brings a wealth of experience to HC Melbourne’s attack. Fresh off her third call-up for the Olympic selection squad (Die Danas), Stapenhorst is poised to add firepower and leadership to HC Melbourne's Women's forward line.

This signing aligns with Hockey One's strategic plan, which allows each club to have one international athlete (male or female) to boost the league's international footprint. Hockey Victoria CEO remarked “It’s really exciting to sign our first International player, it’s a great step for Hockey in the country and we’re thrilled to see what Charlotte can add to the squad.”

HC Melbourne is looking to build on their fifth-place finish last season, where their offense struggled to score, finding the net only seven times throughout the competition. Stapenhorst's arrival will provide a much needed boost upfront, complementing the existing talents of Krissy Bates, Ash Utri, and Olivia Downes.

HC Melbourne’s season opener will kick off on Friday, 11 October where HC Melbourne take on the Adelaide Fire in Adelaide.

HC Melbourne will be back at home after our bye in Round 2 on Saturday, 26 October. Our Men and Women take on Perth Thundersticks live from State Netball Hockey Centre in Parkville.

HC Melbourne have 3 home games this year:

  • Round 3 - Saturday, 26 October vs Perth Thundersticks
  • Round 4 - Friday, 1 November vs NSW Pride
  • Round 7 - Friday, 22 November vs Tasmania Tigers
