Final Indoor Club Championships & JIC Wrap up
Published Mon 17 Mar 2025
Week 6, the final week, of the Indoor Club Championships & Junior Indoor Challenge commenced on Friday night, with two new events: Under 12 Mixed & 35+ Women’s Masters.
Under 12 Mixed
With a total of 10 teams participating in the inaugural Under 12 ICC event, there was a total of 27 matches played across the weekend at SSC Parkville and Monash University with a whopping 203 goals scored. The leading goal scorer going to Tom Brown from Essendon Hockey with 22 goals.
The top 2 teams from each of Pool A and Pool B progressed into the Semi-Final matches, it was Brunswick v Essendon in SF1 and Footscray v KBH in SF2. While the rest of the teams played an extra classification match to determine positions 5th – 10th.
In SF1, Essendon got past Brunswick 6-3, and Footscray progressed past KBH 6-2.
It was a goal fest in the 3rd place playoff, and KBH ended as the victors, 7-4, despite an admirable hattrick from Brunswick’s Tess Barrett.
In the Grand Final, both Pool B teams faced off against each other, as Footscray took on Essendon. Footscray had triumphed against Essendon in the original pool match, and this was sure to be a good one! Things started scoreless, as both teams went back and forth. However, Essendon soon broke the deadlock and rattled off 3 unanswered goals to end the first half. The action resumed and goals started to fly in the 2nd half, but it was too big of a deficit for Footscray to overcome, as Essendon held on 6-2 to become the inaugural Under 12 Indoor Club Champions.

35+ Women’s Masters
With 5 teams participating, there was a total of 13 matches played across the two days at SSC Parkville, with 77 goals scored, and the leading goal scorer going to Nanette Latta from Hawthorn Hockey Club, with 21 goals.
After each team played 4 initial matches in Pool A, they then played in a number of classification matches to determine the final standings.
In the 4th place play-off, Footscray narrowly escaped victory with a 2-1 win against TEM.
In the Preliminary Final, where the winner would progress to play Hawthorn in the Grand Final, Essendon faced off against PEGS. PEGS struck first behind a goal from Georgie Jackel in the 6th minute. But Essendon responded vigorously with a flurry of 3 goals to close out the half and would go on to win 4-2.
The Grand Final match was an offensive spectacle. Leading goal scorer Nanette Latta piled it on, scoring 6 goals for Hawthorn in total, which trumped Essendon’s Rachael Ferguson’s hattrick. Carole Shanks from Hawthorn also joined the party, scoring a goal of her own. In the end, it was Hawthorn claiming the 7-3 win, and naming them Champions of the first Women’s Masters ICC.
There was a point in time where this event may not have gone ahead if not for the tireless efforts of a number of individuals from the 35+ Women’s Masters cohort. We would like to specially thank Carina Ford, Emma Sheard, Dem Peterson and all others who got players involved and participated in this event – your dedication and passion for the sport is truly unmatched, and we are so grateful!
