COVID-19 Update 2.06.21

Published Wed 02 Jun 2021

Today, Wednesday 2 June 2021, the Acting Premier announced that:

  • the current restrictions will remain in place in Melbourne for a further seven days, and
  • regional restrictions are proposed to begin easing from 11:59pm tomorrow night. The State Government will use the next 24 hours to continue tracing and testing and confirm that this change can go ahead.

This means that, among all other restrictions, all community Hockey activities in Metropolitan Melbourne must remain suspended until the State Government advises otherwise. In regards to Hockey activities in Regional Victoria, we understand that juniors will be able to resume competitions and seniors will be able to resume training only, however there is no further detail on this until the Government provide detailed directions.

The full table of restrictions can be accessed on this link. Please note that HV will update the Return to Hockey Guidelines as soon as there is further detail on the new restrictions for Regional Victoria available.

At this stage, we are not anticipating a return to play of Hockey Victoria’s Metropolitan competitions until at least Wednesday 16 June 2021. However, this is dependent on further State Government directions.

We will continue to work through our plans on how to manage the fixtured rounds of hockey that will not occur due to the lockdown. These plans will be communicated to the affiliates at the earliest possible opportunity.

Finally, we are disappointed to announce that the 2021 Senior Country Championships (SCC) will be postponed. The event was meant to take place over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. We will work with the regional associations on a new date for the 2021 SCC.

Further updates will be provided as soon as any relevant information becomes available.
