2023 Disciplinary Changes

Published Fri 14 Jul 2023

Hockey Victoria are concerned by the number of recent reports regarding participant behaviour from players, officials, team staff and spectators displayed on and off the pitch up to this point in the season. To provide context, there have been 23 incident reports so far this season, compared to 14 throughout the entirety of the 2022 season. This is a concerning number, and has prompted us to take further action to combat this trend and curb poor participant behaviour.

As such, the following will take place from Friday 14th July:

  • Doubling of recommended penalties for a breach of conduct

This means that when an incident report is filed against a match participant (player, official, team staff), and the offender is found guilty of a breach of conduct as outlined in Schedule 2, they may be subject to double the recommended penalty.

This change will last until Thursday 10th August. From there, HV will review the impact of this change, and we hope to see a reduction in incident reports and accounts of poor behaviour over this period.
