The Hockey Victoria High Performance team is introducing a new Strength and Conditioning (S&C) program for 16+ year old athletes interested in improving their physical performance.  We are providing this program during the outdoor hockey off season to support athletes in preparation for their club preseason in 2024. This is also a great opportunity for athletes participating in U21 trials in late December.

S&C training involves a wide range of exercises developed to build a variety of skills. Working with a S&C coach can offer several benefits to a field hockey player such as improving physical performance, preventing injuries, increasing speed and agility, and many others.

This program will be delivered and run by HV and S&C Academy coach Bailey Lewis. Bailey programmed and delivered numerous Academy S&C sessions and he is also Senior Academy Sport Science Coordinator at Melbourne City Football Club. Athletes registering for this program will benefit from Bailey’s S&C knowledge and experience.

The S&C program consists of four sessions a week for 4 weeks (16 sessions in total), and includes:

  • Testing at the start and the end of the program.
  • Program plan provided to athletes.
  • 1 face to face strength session per week. Athletes will train at the High-Performance Gym located in the Melbourne Sport Centre facility.
  • 1 face to face conditioning session per week at the Royal Park.
  • 2 individual sessions per week provided for athletes to complete in their own time.
