Draft Camp (Academy Selection) is a ONE-DAY development program available to anyone who HAS NOT satisfied the selection criteria for automatic entry into the Hockey Victoria Academy.

The Draft Camp program which combines intensive skill development in small groups, modified games and match play. It provides athletes with the opportunity to improve their skills and techniques under the guidance of our High Performance coaches as well as be assessed and potentially gain selection into the Hockey Victoria Academy Program.
Draft Camp is the ONLY entry point into the Academy for players who have not gained automatic entry through having represented Hockey Victoria in the relevant State Teams, click here to see how athletes qualify for automatic entry into The Academy and how entry into the academies work.
The Hockey Victoria High Performance Department runs three separate Draft Camps (U13, U15, U18) throughout the year with the aim to have them scheduled in line with National Tournament so the Athletes have the best possible preparation.
Age eligibility: The athlete is 18 years or under on the 31st of December 11:59pm, 2022. Therefore, if the athlete is turning 18 in 2021 then they are ineligible for this event. If you are unsure please contact us before registering.
The numbers selected from Draft Camp will be dependent on the numbers of athletes who have accepted their position in the Hockey Victoria Academy from the automatic selection process.
Coaches include some of Victoria’s top players, including current VIS scholarship holders, HC Melbourne players including where possible current and ex international players. The Academy will be limited to 44 Field Players and 6 Goal Keepers (both girls & boys), Players selected into the Academy will be notified by email shortly following the Draft Camp.
Goal Keepers will get the opportunity to receive specialist training from our Goal Keeper coaches, as well as participating in some of the drills and match play with the Field Players. Like the Field Players, Draft Camp is also an opportunity for Goal Keepers to be considered for selection into the Academy.
To help athletes prepare for both draft camp and academy, HP Athlete & Coaching Manager, Phil Burrows has prepared the following conditioning tools to assist athletes to prepare.
